TWIN for Windows/NT Release 2.00 (Intel x86)
Changes and Known Bugs
22 May 1996
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Use with Windows/NT v3.5 or v3.51 not with NT v3.0
TwinOrion64 Modes tested:
Colours 8, 16, 32 bpp
Resolutions dual 640x480 800x600 1024x768 & 1280x1024
Changes in 2.00:
1) Support for more boards and chipsets
2) much newer version of Microsoft S3 code used.
3) much faster switching between multiple boards.
4) bug removed that made Slave screen of TwinOrion64 all black!
5) system warm-boots on machines that previously caused problems
6) better handling of systems with embedded TRIOs
Changes in 1.03:
1) Interrupt problems removed
In some systems interrupts could occasionally get lost. This
could manifest in a variety of ways, including inability of access
a SCSI hard disk, system running slowly sometimes
Most systems would not be affected by this problem.
A fault has been removed and the interupt problem is believed fixed.
2) Fast Switching
On systems with multiple TWIN-ORION 64s providing more than 2 screens,
the method used to switch between video channels has been re-engineered
providing a substantial improvement in switching times and thus overall
performance.
3) DEC Twin Pentium
A number of changes have been made to support the DEC Twin Pentium
machines even thoug these have non-conforming PCI System BIOSes
and have an interlock problem in either their NT HAL layer or in
their System BIOS
Changes in 1.02:
1) Multiple TWIN-Orion64s.
Multiple TWIN-Orion64 are supported allowing more than 2 screens.
2) Autocad
A bug affecting the Autocad TextPad has been fixed.
3) Motherboard TRIO chips
This release is more tolerant of motherboard TRIO chips. In some
machines, with earlier versions of TWIN for Windows/NT, a motherboard
TRIO chip could cause TWIN for Windows/NT to fail.
Known Bugs:
1 MicroStation
i) The initial MicroStation for NT (version 5.00.76.02) runs correctly
at 8bpp, but draws black at 16, 24 and 32 bpp. Bentley are currently
Version 5.00.95 runs correctly at all colour depths.
ii) Early versions of Microstation did not work correctly if "Full Drag"
is enabled in Control Panel/Desktop. If Full Drag in On, Microstation
would redraw a view many many times after it has been dragged.
iii) Early versions of Microstation does not refresh the display correctly
if backing store has been switched off, resulting in numerous redraws
and very poor performance.
2. Paintbrush
In 'Virtual-Desktop Mode', Paintbrush does not run sucessfully if it is
not on the left screen. For some drawing operations, Paintbrush constrains
the cursor to be on the left screen.
We expect this problem will be resolved by BlackHoles for NT.
Restrictions:
1 Maximising Windows.
In 'Virtual-Desktop Mode', when a window is maximised it ALWAYS expands
to fill the MASTER screen.
With the Virtual-Dektop switched OFF, when a window is maximised it
ALWAYS expands across BOTH screens.
In 'Virtual-Desktop Mode' it is not possible to maximise to the second
screen, although a maximised window can be dragged from the master to the
second screen.
Using BlackHoles the user may choose the screen to which an Application
will be maximised.
Supported Hardware
This version detects and uses ISA and VL Orion 928 boards.
The base address 0x300, 0x320 or 0x340 is found automatically.
This version should detect and use up to 9 Orion 928 boards..
This version supports as many TWIN-Orion64 boards (PCI) as can
be plugged into the computer, and mixtures or TWIN-ORion64s and
Single-Orion64 (TRIO) boards.
